What is Twyning Community Project?

Twyning Mens Shed has had a very successful time since it was started in 2022. From a small group of 5 meeting once a week on Wednesday morning we have increased the membership to 28. Due to the building size and equipment this means we had to introduce further sessions, firstly Tuesday morning, then later on, Tuesday afternoons and in November 2024 we opened a further session on Wednesday afternoons.

In September 2024 Bill was approached with an enquiry regarding women with an interest in the work that we do. After discussions and reaching out to the community a group of women expressed interest in our work. Consequently Twyining Sister Shed was formed and meets on a Thursday afternoon under supervision of 0ne of the Mens Shed leaders to ensure training and safety.

Also earlier this year Bill asked the community if anyone was interested in a Community Garden wher a group could get together to share the workload of growing their own vegetables without the commitment of taking on a large allotment single-handedly. There was again a genuine interest from people wanting to take part, enabling them to provide their family with fresh local vegetables in an environably friendly way. An area that had been neglected was cleared and a number of raised beds have been established. Because of the needs of the garden access is available 7 days a week with volunteers sharing the cultivation work and crops that they produce.

With the three initiatives taking place it was decided that, although each project had and waranted its own identity, it would be advantageous to have and umbrella organisor. Hence "Twyning Community Project"
